Former Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, is confident of his participation in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, which is scheduled to take place in South Africa, Namibia, and South Africa next year. Notably, Rohit & Co. failed to lift the title in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at home after losing to Australia in the grand finale in Ahmedabad.
Speaking at an event hosted by DP World, Rohit made it clear about his aspiration of winning the World Cup for his country, adding that the mega event was the pinnacle of the game when he was growing up.
"I will definitely want to go out there & win the World Cup for my country, that is something that I've always looked upon, I've grown up watching this 50-over WC," Rohit said during a DP World event.
"There was no T20 WC, no IPL, no WTC back then and that was the pinnacle of Cricket which used to happen every four years so there was desperation, there was so much weight for that one trophy - I really want that trophy so I'm gonna try and do everything in my power and capacity to work hard and get it," he added.
Notably, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements from the longest and shortest formats of the game to keep themselves fit for the upcoming ICC mega event next year. For playing only one format, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to downgrade the talismanic batting duo from Grade A+ to Grade B in the newly announced central contracts for the 2025-26 season.
For the unversed, the BCCI awarded central contracts to 30 men and 21 women cricketers bracketed in groups A, B, and C. Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah are part of Grade A, with the BCCI removing the Grade A+ category.
