Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bagged a two-run win over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 52nd match of the IPL 2025 season at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 3.
RCB was entrusted to bat first after losing the toss. Jacob Bethell (55) and Virat Kohli (62) stitched a 97-run stand for the opening wicket. Eventually, Romario Shepherd smacked 53* runs off 14 balls with four fours and six sixes to take RCB to 213/5 in 20 overs.
In the chase, CSK opening batter Ayush Mhatre smacked 94 runs off 48 balls with nine fours and five sixes. Though Ravindra Jadeja smacked 77* runs in 45 balls with eight fours and two sixes, Yash Dayal's brilliant last over helped RCB to bag a two-run win.
Speaking on the defeat, Dhoni stated that he could have converted more shots to ease the pressure. Moreover, he took the blame for the loss. Notably, Dhoni came into bat in the dying moments of the chase, scoring 12 runs in eight balls with one six.
“When I went into bat, with the kind of deliveries and the runs needed, I felt I should've converted a couple more shots to ease the pressure. I take the blame. They got off to a good start, in between we pulled it back, but Romario Shepherd was brilliant. Whatever the bowlers bowled, he was able to get maximum runs,” Dhoni said in the post match presentation.
“We need to practice more yorkers. More often than not, when the batters start to connect, you have to rely on yorkers. Also the margin of error (yorkers provide) - so if you're looking for a perfect yorker, if that doesn't happen, a low full toss is the next best thing. It's one of the most difficult balls to hit,” he added.
