England spin bowling all-rounder Liam Dawson, who made his Test comeback after an eight-year gap, took only seven balls on his comeback in Manchester to get into the wickets column as he scalped the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal on the opening day of the ongoing Test.

Dawson, who attended the post-day press conference, admitted that he was feeling nervous, having not played the longest format of the game for England for years. He ended the opening day with the figures of 1/45 in 15 overs.

"Yeah, of course I was nervous. Obviously not [having] played for a number of years... but obviously nerves are a good thing and I think the older you get, the more you play, you sort of learn how to sort of manage those nerves," Dawson said at the post-day media conference.

Dawson, who pocketed the big wicket of Jaiswal, is confident of doing well on the second day of the Manchester Test, with India losing only four wickets on the opening day. Moreover, he asserted that he had no plans of making his way back to Test cricket.

"It's one wicket you know, I've done nothing you know special there, it's one wicket but yeah, it's obviously another big day tomorrow. Yeah it's nice to obviously contribute to the team early on, I've said to a few people that you know they age them out, I probably thought Test cricket was gone but obviously to be back involved is really cool and I've got to try and enjoy each day that I get,” he added.

“I mean Test cricket is completely different to domestic cricket so yeah, to get that wicket was a nice relief sort of coming back into it but yeah, it's obviously a big day tomorrow and hopefully get a couple more,” he concluded.

At stumps on Day 1, India were at 264/4 in 83 overs with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur batting on 19 runs each.
