Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has cleared that he has no issues with Virat Kohli as India’s Test or ODI captain. He lauded the way Kohli has led team India ever since donning the role replacing MS Dhoni in the respective formats. However, he also stressed that Kohli’s T20 captaincy is questionable.

Gambhir praised the way India played in Australia and also hoped that the team will continue to grow under Virat Kohli. “I have always had question marks over his T20 captaincy but I never had question marks on his 50-over or Test match captaincy. India has done very well under his leadership especially in red-ball cricket and I am sure India will continue to grow further under his leadership,” he said while speaking on a Star Sports show Game Plan.

Virat Kohli missed three Tests on the Australia tour as he returned to India to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. He and Anushka Sharma were blessed with a baby girl on January 11 whom they have named Vamika. Kohli will be returning to lead India and Gautam Gambhir reckons the India skipper will be fresh and raring to go on the field after a break.

He also cited the importance of the leader of the pack being fresh and happy. “One important person is obviously Virat Kohli because he is going to come back fresh. He is going to come back happy as well. I am sure he has probably experienced the best phase of his life because once you have a little one, nothing can beat that. The leader needs to be fresh and happy,” Gambhir further said.
