Both the seniors in the Indian team, Kohli and Rohit didn’t live up to the expectations in the Test series against Australia. Interestingly, Kohli’s only big score came in the Perth Test with an unbeaten 100. In the next seven innings, his highest score was only 36.

Though Gambhir straightaway refused to comment on both players' future, he stated that their future depends on their hunger and commitment towards Indian cricket.

"I can't comment on the future of any Players, it is up to them. They have the hunger and commitment - hopefully they can do everything they can to take Indian cricket forward,” Gambhir stated in the press conference.

"To keep the dressing room happy, I have to be honest and fair to everyone," he added.

“Every individual knows that his game and his hard work is the most important thing for any sport and any profession,” Gambhir added on the future of the team.

Notably, Rohit Sharma missed out on the Perth Test after becoming a father for the second time. However, he stepped down as the skipper from the SCG Test after his poor show with the bat in the previous three Tests.

Team India will next take on England in June in the five-match Test series in England. It would be a tough task for the Indian selection committee to pick Kohli and Rohit for an away tour.

Furthermore, the Indian head coach also hoped that all the Indian cricketers part of the squad would be available for the Ranji Trophy season, which will take part later this month.
