It takes time, persistence, and consistent perseverance for a cricketer to mark himself as an unforgettable name in the history of the game. The great game of cricket had witnessed some of the all-time greats like Sir Vivian Richards, former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, and Sunil Gavaskar followed by the two renowned names of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli who started their careers in international cricket in the 21st century only.

But, there would not be something greater than the feeling that comes for you when a World Cup-winning legend like Kapil Dev keeps you completely apart from this league and terms as a ‘once in a century’ player.

The 1983 World Champion Indian skipper came up with these praising remarks for the current World number one T20I batter and star Indian batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav. The 32-year-old recently smashed his career’s third T20I century in the third and last of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

He is able to pick the line and length consistently - Kapil Dev on Suryakumar Yadav

“Sometimes I am at a loss of words on how to describe his knock. When we see Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, we feel that someday there will be a player who will compel us to think he is also part of that list. There is indeed a lot of talent in India. And the kind of cricket he plays, that lap shot the one over fine leg, then that leaves the bowler frightened because he can stand and hit a six over mid-on and mid-wicket. That is what makes it difficult for the bowlers because he is able to pick the line and length consistently. I have seen great batters like De Villiers, Vivian Richards, Sachin, Virat, and Ricky Ponting, but very few can hit the ball as cleanly as him. Hats off to Suryakumar Yadav. These kinds of players come only once in a century," said Kapil to ABP News.

Coming back to Suryakumar Yadav, he is now behind only his fellow teammate and skipper Rohit Sharma in hitting the most T20I centuries. The Mumbai batter amassed 112 runs off just 51 balls with a strike rate of more than 200 including seven boundaries and nine massive sixes to his name.
