I don't think Rinku Singh will play now in the coming matches: Harbhajan Singh

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has stated that the dashing opening batter Abhishek Sharma took his own time before going for shots in the Super8 clash against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, February 26.

Speaking exclusively on his YouTube channel, Bhajji termed Abhishek as a ‘very brave player’, adding that the opening batter took singles off the deliveries he got out to in the group stage earlier in the showpiece event.

Opening the batting with Sanju Samson, Sharma went on to score 55 runs in 30 balls with four fours and as many sixes at a strike rate of 183.33 as India posted a whopping total of 256/4 in 20 overs.

"When Abhishek plays, he plays in such explosive fashion only. It was just top-class batting. Earlier, he was out twice while playing cross bat shots, and now he took singles off such balls, he took his time in the first 5-7 deliveries, and then he started playing his shots. He was playing in such a flow that those ducks are quite far away now. It was a tough time for him, for sure. He is a very brave player," Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube channel.

In the middle and death overs, Ishan Kishan (38), Suryakumar Yadav (33), Hardik Pandya (50*), and Tilak Varma (44*) played important roles. Bhajji reckoned that it would be tough for Rinku Singh to make his comeback to the XI in the ongoing mega event.

"Tilak played a brilliant knock, he had come in at No.5 after the batting order changed, and he played freely. This batting order suits Tilak Varma. But I don't think Rinku will play now in the coming matches, and I don't think there will be too many changes now," he added.

India will next lock horns with the West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1.
