‘Hum to dube Sanam Tum ko bhi leke dubenge’ - Fans react as KKR defeat CSK by 6 wickets

On 14 May 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing IPL. The 61st match of the tournament happened in Chennai. It was a must-win game for KKR to stay alive in the tournament. While CSK also were looking to seal their place in the playoffs with another win.

In the reverse fixture, CSK defeated KKR at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Speaking of the match, MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. For CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway came out to open the innings. However, the pitch looked a bit tricky as spinners were getting assistance.

CSK suffered a six-wicket loss against KKR

Gaikwad scored 17 runs off 13 balls, including two fours. Then, Conway’s struggle came to an end after scoring 30 runs off 28 balls, including three fours. Then, Rahane scored 16 runs off 11 balls, including one four and one six. Rayudu failed again as he scored four runs off seven balls. After that, Shivam Dube played a sensible knock and remained not out on 48* runs off 34 balls, including one four and three sixes. Ravindra Jadeja scored 20 runs off 24 balls, including one six. Dhoni played only three balls and scored only 2* runs as CSK scored 144 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. For KKR, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each. Along with them, both Vaibhav Arora and Shardul Thakur took one wicket each.

In reply, KKR batters had a terrible start. In the first six overs, KKR scored 46 runs for three wickets. Gurbaz scored just one run and Jason Roy scored 12 runs off 15 balls. Iyer also failed cheaply as he scored nine runs off four balls. Deepak Chahar took all three wickets for 27 runs in his first three overs. After that, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh tried to settle the ship. Rinku scored 54 runs off 43 balls and stitched a partnership of 99 runs for the fourth wicket. Finally, Rana scored 57* runs off 44 balls and KKR chased down the target in 18.3 overs.

CSK were due a bad day with the bat. Turned out to be pretty bad in the end. A thoroughly professional show by KKR though - that stand between Rinku and Rana breathed maturity and composure all the way through to stay on par with the eight-ball. Excellent work! #CSKvsKKR #IPL2023
