Huge blow for Mumbai, Rohit Sharma punished!

Mumbai didn't really have an ideal start to their campaign, as they lost their first game of the Indian T20 league 2022. Delhi produced a remarkable comeback to win the second match this season. It was Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav who turned out to be the match-winners for the Delhi-based franchise with the bat.

To make matters worse for Mumbai, their captain Rohit Sharma has been fined for slow over-rate. He was fined INR 12 lakh under the Indian T20 league's Code of Conduct pertaining to minimum over-rate offences. It is to be noted that Mumbai did take time to complete their overs during the second innings.

This was the opener's first over-rate offence during the 2022 edition. Continuous over-rate violations by the five-time champions could face larger penalties. This isn't his first time as Sharma has been fined for slow over-rate in the past as well.

Thus, Mumbai already have a lot of things to worry about early in the tournament. Earlier in the day, the Hitman looked good while batting as he scored 41 from 32 deliveries, and struck four boundaries and two sixes. After which, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed him in the eighth over.

The spinner was absolutely sensational as he picked three wickets in his full quota of four overs, and only gave 18 runs. During the second innings, Mumbai started really well with the ball. However, things went haywire during the last few overs as Delhi's lower-order took the Mumbai bowlers to the cleaners. Sharma stated that the bowlers didn't bowl according to their plans during the post-match presentation.

"I thought it was a good score. It didn't look like a pitch where you can get 170+ at the start but we played in the middle and finished well. Just didn't bowl according to our plans. Never been the talk (of badly wanting to win the first game). We always come prepared whether it's the first game or last game. We want to win every game. Things didn't go according to plan but that can happen. Just need to stay close as a group and take the learnings. Disappointed with the loss but not the end," said Rohit Sharma.
