India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav will be back in action on Thursday (January 22) at the international level for the first time since November 2024. He plays only T20Is for India and the five-match T20I series is set to get underway. He has not been picked in ODIs after the World Cup final while his only Test appearance came in February 2023.

Even though he is playing only one format, Surya is contracted with the BCCI in Grade B category earning INR 3 crore. BCCI had included him in the said category alongside Cheteshwar Pujara, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj and Shubman Gill when they last announced the contract retainership for the 2023-24 season.
The list is expected to be updated soon for the 2024-25 season and it remains to be seen if he will be promoted or demoted. Apart from this, the Indian players earn for playing each game for the country. The Indian players who are part of the playing XI, earn INR 15 lakh for each Test, INR 6 lakh for each ODI and INR 3 lakh for each T20I.
Accordingly, India are scheduled to play a total of 18 T20Is in a bilateral series. The men in blue will lock horns against England in five T20Is and are also slated to play five T20Is each against South Africa and Australia later this year apart from three matches in the shortest format against Bangladesh. Apart from this, India will also participate in the Asia Cup which will be played in the T20 format.
Surya and his men will at least get five T20Is to play in the Asian tournament before the final. Accordingly, assuming that Surya will play all the matches, India’s T20I captain has a chance to earn around INR 69 lakh from the BCCI.
Moreover, Suryakumar Yadav has also been retained by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025. He was the third player to be retained by the franchise and is set to get Rs 16.35 crore from the five-time champions.
