Following a mid-season suspension and a one-and-a-half-week extension for the remainder of the tournament, the 35-year-old made the decision to step away. His presence in the Axar Patel-led side would have undoubtedly been valuable, especially as they desperately chase wins to secure a spot in the tournament’s top four.

Despite their recent loss to the Gujarat Titans, the Delhi Capitals (DC) remain in contention for the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Starc will now face a financial setback after withdrawing before completing the season. He was signed by the Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2025 super auction for a staggering INR 11.75 crore.

According to cricket.com.au, if DC advances to the finals, Starc will be required to forfeit a third of his earnings. The left-arm pacer stands to lose approximately INR 3.92 crore, leaving him with around INR 7.83 crore from his original contract.

Although he was considered slightly expensive in terms of economy rate, Starc played a key role in the DC bowling attack and contributed by taking 14 wickets in 11 matches, including a five-wicket haul.

With Starc’s absence, DC will need to find a new strategy to reach the playoffs without the services of their elite seamer.

As for the WTC Final, Australia secured their place in the summit clash by defeating India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 series. The Pat Cummins-led side will now face Temba Bavuma’s South Africa, with the pace attack likely to feature Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland as they look to defend their title.
