Hardik Pandya has started the IPL 2023 season with a bang as Gujarat Titans (GT) have won two out of two matches. In the last edition, Pandya led the franchise to the title at their maiden attempt. So, all eyes were on Pandya and his men on how they will start the season to defend the title. On 9 April, GT locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Ahmedabad.

But, Gujarat fans became surprised when Rashid Khan came out for the toss. Hardik Pandya missed the match and it was quite surprising for all fans. Seeing that, fans shared their views on social media. However, Hardik Pandya has failed to perform well from an individual perspective so far in this ongoing tournament.

Pandya has scored 13 runs so far with the bat in two matches while failing to take any wickets. Speaking about his missing from the KKR clash, at the toss, Rashid Khan said: "We would like to bat first, looks like a fresh wicket, hopefully, we can put up a good total and defend it. (On Hardik Pandya not playing today) Just unwell slightly, don't want to take risks with him. As a team we will try to play good cricket. We would like to bat well and put just one change, Vijay Shankar is in for Hardik."

However, Vijay Shankar did not disappoint after coming as a replacement for Hardik Pandya. He scored 63* runs off 24 balls, including four fours and five sixes. His innings helped the Gujarat franchise to score 204 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. Apart from him, Sai Sudharsan also scored 53 runs off 38 balls, including three fours and two sixes. For the Kolkata franchise, Sunil Narine grabbed three wickets while Suyash Sharma took one wicket.
