In a major reshuffle, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have appointed Luke Williams as head coach ahead of the 2024 Women's Premier League (WPL). Ben Sawyer coached the side in WPL 2023. It was an underwhelming season for the Bold Army as they ended up with just four points and two wins in their campaign.  This is the second Australian for RCB who will take charge.

When we talk about Williams, he has done some great work as a coach, in the Women's Big Bash League (W BBL) he has coached Adelaide Strikers to a title in 2022-23. Williams has spent four seasons with them and taken them to two runner-up finishes. Williams was also the Southern Brave's assistant coach who helped them win their maiden Women 's title in the Hundred.

Williams has also done a lot of work with Charlotte Edwards. RCB finished fourth in an underwhelming season in 2023. The side boasted of experienced international players such as Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, Dane van Niekerk and Heather Knight. But in their maiden season, they just could not win when it mattered most.

Sawyer will not be returning as RCB women's coach next season. Their big-ticket Indian buy was Smriti Mandhana who went for 3.4 crores INR in the inaugural WPL auction. But she could not live up to the hefty price tag as he scored 149 runs in just eight innings. In their first season, the Bold Army went on a string of five losses.

Then they somehow came back to win two games in their last three. The positives for RCB were the evolution of youngsters like Shreyanka Patil, Kanika Ahuja and Richa Ghosh. RCB will want to start on a clean slate and have a good season come WPL 2024. The last WPL season was entirely played in Mumbai. It remains to be seen whether the 2024 season will be played in home and way format.
