India PM has congratulated the India U19 team for winning the U19 World Cup 2022. They beat England by four wickets in the final to clinch their 5th title. England skipper Tom Prest won the toss and elected to bat first. The Three Lions had a horrendous start as they lost seven wickets at the score of 91. James Rew (95) and James Sales (34*) stitched a partnership of 93 runs to take the team to a respectable total of 189. For the Men In Blue, Raj Bawa took five while Ravi Kumar took four wickets.

In reply, the Yash Dhull-led side lost the early wicket of Angkrish Raghavanshi (0). Harnoor Singh (21) and vice-captain Shaik Rasheed stitched a partnership of 49 runs for the second wicket before Singh was dismissed by Thomas Aspinwall. Rasheed then added 46 runs with skipper Dhull, also reaching his second consecutive half-century in the process.

Nishant Sindhu (50*) and Raj Bawa (35) then put together a match-winning partnership of 67 runs before wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Bana hit two back-to-back sixes to seal the U19 World Cup trophy for the team. Reacting to the victory, PM Modi took to Twitter and congratulated the team, saying that he is extremely proud of the team's performance and that Indian cricket is in safe hands.

"Extremely proud of our young cricketers. Congratulations to the Indian team for winning the ICC U19 World Cup. They have shown great fortitude through the tournament. Their stellar performance at the highest level shows that the future of Indian cricket is in safe and able hands," PM Modi tweeted.

The victory against England in Antigua means that India have won five U19 World Cup Trophies till now, which is the highest in the history of the tournament. Previously, they had won the trophy in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018. Yash Dhull has joined the elite club of India U19 skippers, including Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand, and Prithvi Shaw to win a U-19 World Cup for the country.
