Here's how SRH can still qualify for IPL 2023 playoffs with 14 points

The IPL 2023 league phase is approaching its conclusion, and the playoff race is as competitive as ever. Fifty-eight games have been played, but no team has formally affirmed its playoff position. Similarly, no team had been officially eliminated before the Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings match.

The only three teams in the tournament that have yet to accumulate the necessary 16 points are KKR, SRH, and DC. However, if they score 14 points, KKR and SRH can still make the playoffs. Although it would seem odd, this could occur in a few circumstances.

There are still three games for SRH, one against each GT, RCB, and MI. KKR is now playing CSK and LSG. SRH is currently in ninth place with 8 points after 11 games, while KKR is in seventh with 10 points after 12 games. Both clubs must win their remaining games because they now rely on other outcomes.

There is a slim chance that both KKR and SRH will make the cut, despite the odds not being in their favour. There are only two teams with more than 14 points currently: GT (16) and CSK (15). The maximum points total that SRH and KKR can get is 14, which MI and LSG can surpass if they win their forthcoming match against one another. MI and LSG now have 14 and 13 points, respectively. The playoff race would still have one position open, though.

Given the game outcome between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore can also threaten to score more than 14 and eliminate SRH and KKR. However, SRH and KKR would benefit if they fell short of the 14-point threshold.

Overall, Kolkata and Hyderabad are in peril and require a lot of things to go their way. Their chances of making the playoffs depend on other outcomes. Therefore, they must win every game they still have. It will be interesting to see whether they can perform a miracle and secure a playoff spot.
