Although the opener scored 33-ball 57, fans slammed him saying that he would score only in warm-up matches. Many opined on Twitter that the batter fails in crucial matches while a few backed him saying that he deserves a lot of appreciation for his inning.

Much to the amazement of the Indian fans, Rahul managed to score three sixes and seven fours in his inning and scored at a strike rate of 172.73. However, the fans hit back at him and hoped that he would carry on with the form in the Super 12 stage of the showpiece event as well.

Concerning the match, Australia failed to chase down the target of 187 and lost the match by 6 runs despite Aaron Finch’s greathearted 76. The skipper, who was gutted by the loss, said that he was happy with his form and added that the team did not capitalize on the opportunity in the end.

“We learned that we need to be clinical towards the back-end, we didn't capitalize towards the end. We did drag them back after that blistering start from KL, happy with my own form. He's fantastic (on Kane Richardson), every opportunity he gets for Australia, he's there performing, that shows the depth of our pace bowling unit. 22nd will be a great day, looking to start off on a winning note, playing against New Zealand and at the SCG will be always special,” Finch said in the post-match interview.

As far as India are concerned, the team led by Rohit Sharma and his men would look to take on Pakistan on October 23 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Indian team would look to turn things around from the previous edition of the 20-20 World Cup and look to avenge the Men in Green for the defeat last year.
