In a major setback for the defending champions, Team India, pacer Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after sustaining a knee injury during the warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, February 4.

Ace pacer Mohammed Siraj has been named as his replacement for the showpiece event. The 24-year-old Delhi pacer Rana managed to bowl only one over, giving away 16 runs in the warm-up game against South Africa. With the bat, he managed to face only one ball.
“Team India pacer Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after sustaining a knee injury during the warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on February 4th, 2026,” the BCCI statement read.
“Following consultations with a specialist and subsequent scans, the BCCI medical team deemed him unfit to participate in the tournament. The team management wishes him a speedy recovery. Mohd. Siraj will join the team as Harshit’s replacement in the squad,” the statement added.
When asked about a question on Harshit Rana being ruled out from the tournament and the unclear fitness status of Washington Sundar, the India T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, is optimistic about doing well with a different combination.
"Don't worry, we have 11 players for today. But the big blow is obvious. If you make a squad of 15 players. You make the squad with a lot of combinations in mind. We made it with that in mind. And if he's not available for us going forward, then we'll set other combinations. But we have enough players and combinations. Against all the teams that we can make for the tournament. But if we miss him, we'll definitely miss him," Surya said as quoted by the ICC.
