Young Indian pacer Harshit Rana has revealed that he used to cry every day in front of his dad after his name wouldn’t pop up while attending trials during his early days of playing the game of cricket.
Speaking exclusively to MensXP, Rana, who is currently plying his trade in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, has stated he faced rejection for 10 years during his early days. Although he wanted to give up on many occasions, his father’s constant guidance and encouragement motivated him to do well and pursue his dream.
"I know how to handle failure now. I have seen those ten years where nothing happened. I would go to trials and my name would not come. I would come back and cry every day in front of my dad. So now I think that failure is gone; whatever comes, I can handle it. I had given up. But my dad kept pushing me literally," Rana told MensXP.
Furthermore, he disclosed that the Indian talismanic batting duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are his favourite batters to bowl to, adding that the veteran duo challenged him in the nets, helping him improve his bowling skills.
"Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma. Even if I bowl easily to them, there is a competition when they come to bat in the nets, and they challenge me to do things, so I also get on my peak to bowl," he added.
Speaking about his international career, Rana made his international debut against Australia Down Under in November 2024. He has scalped 34 wickets in 21 innings and scored 127 runs in 11 innings across formats. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rana represents Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and has pocketed 40 wickets in 32 innings so far.
