Harshit Rana added to India’s Test squad for England tour

In an interesting turn of events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has decided to officially include the pacer Harshit Rana into the Indian Test squad, that is scheduled to take on England in the five-match Test series from June 20.

According to reports published on Cricbuzz, Rana has been staying with Team India as a cover for a few pacers who have been carrying niggles. Though the officials didn’t disclose the names of the players, who aren’t completely fit, the pacer travelled with the Indian team to Leeds on Tuesday, June 17.

It’s important to note that the Indian team, led by Shubman Gill, has five pacers already part of the 18-man squad namely Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh. Moreover, Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy are the all-round pace options available.

Rana, who played two Tests, five ODIs and a T20I, would be the sixth player to be a part of the pace battery in the Indian team. While all other India A members are on their way back home, Rana was part of the India A squad that played two unofficial Tests against England Lions and an intrasquad game against India.

Moving into the details of the five-match Test series, the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will commence on Friday, June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. Later, the action shifts to Edgbaston from July 2, Lord’s from July 10, Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23 and The Oval from July 31.
