Harry Brook, the captain of England's T20I and ODI teams, has issued an apology for getting into a fight with a nightclub bouncer on the eve of an ODI while the squad was in New Zealand before the Ashes.

The event surfaced during England's 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia, which was followed by criticism of the team's culture, including claims of binge drinking during a break in Noosa.

According to a Telegraph article, Harry Brook was kicked out from a party the night before the Wellington ODI, and the bouncer punched him.

Despite receiving a final warning and a fine of over GBP 30,000 for his acts, Brook—who is also England's Test vice-captain—retained his position as white-ball leader.

"I want to apologize for my actions. I fully accept that my behavior was wrong and brought embarrassment to both myself and the England team. Representing England is the greatest honor of all, which I take seriously, and I am deeply sorry for letting down my teammates, coaches, and supporters.

I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism, and the standards expected of those representing your country. I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both on and off the field. I apologize unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again,” Brook stated in a statement released to Telegraph Sport.

Adding to the statement, the ECB said, "We are aware of this incident, and it has been dealt with through a formal and confidential ECB disciplinary process. The player involved has apologized and acknowledged their conduct fell below expectations on this occasion."

Since being put on a final warning, Brook has had a miserable Ashes trip, failing to live up to his reputation as the second-best batsman in Test cricket worldwide. He only hit two fifties in ten innings.

While the team was in Wellington at the end of October, a group of players, including Brook, were seen on camera drinking alcohol in a rooftop bar on the night in question. But the altercation with Brook happened later and had nothing to do with that.

For the time being, the 26-year-old will continue to captain England until the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka, which starts in two weeks, and the next T20 World Cup 2026.
