Haris Rauf banned for two games following Asia Cup 2025 controversy against India

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf receives a two-match ban after accumulating four demerit points for controversial on-field gestures during the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clashes, breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf has been handed a two-match ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his recent provocative gestures against the Indian team in the Asia Cup 2025 campaign, which India successfully defended in Dubai.

On the other hand, the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee and was handed two demerit points for his politically charged comments after snubbing handshakes with Pakistan cricketers and support staff.

According to the ICC, Suryakumar was found guilty of breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to conduct that brings the game into disrepute. Also, Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was handed one demerit point for his provocative gesture in the Super Four clash.

Pakistan opening batter Sahibzada Farhan was found guilty of his gun celebration and was issued an official warning, along with one demerit point. The hearing was done by the members of the ICC's Elite Panel of Match Referees following incidents during India vs Pakistan matches on September 14, 21, and 28. 

ICC official statement: 

14 September 2025 – India vs. Pakistan

Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson:

  1. Suryakumar Yadav (India) was found guilty of a breach of Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to conduct that brings the game into disrepute. He was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and received two demerit points.

  2. S. Farhan (Pakistan) was found guilty of the same offence and was issued an official warning, receiving one demerit point.

  3. Haris Rauf (Pakistan) was also found guilty of the same offence and fined 30 per cent of his match fee, resulting in two demerit points.

21 September 2025 – India vs. Pakistan

Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft:

  1. Arshdeep Singh (India) was found not guilty of an alleged breach of Article 2.6, which pertains to using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting, and therefore no sanction was imposed.

28 September 2025 – Final, India vs. Pakistan

  1. Jasprit Bumrah (India) accepted a charge under Article 2.21 for conduct that brings the game into disrepute and the proposed sanction of an official warning, which resulted in one demerit point. As he accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was required.

  2. Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson, Haris Rauf (Pakistan) was again found guilty of a breach of Article 2.21. He was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and received two additional demerit points.
