“Ajit Agarkar should be given 10/10” - Harbhajan Singh opens up on India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2026

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has opened up on Shubman Gill’s omission from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 squad, stating that he was solely left out of the format because of the combination the Indian selectors wanted for the showpiece event.

Speaking exclusively to ANI about Gill's comeback to the ODI format after a neck injury sustained during the South Africa Test series at home, Bhajji asserted that the Indian ODI skipper was bound to make a comeback in the format. Notably, India is set to take on New Zealand in the three-match ODI series, starting on Sunday, January 11 in Vadodara.

“Gill was bound to make a comeback. I had no doubt that there was any question about Shubman's return. I think Shubman Gill was left out solely because of the T20 format and the combination Team India wanted. Otherwise, I never had any doubt that he would not be in the ODI or Test team. So, he has returned as captain. I hope the team plays well, and this series will also be won by India."

Furthermore, he termed the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as a 10/10 squad, praising the decisions taken by the Indian selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar. Also, he added that Gill would get his chances soon after the mega event.

"The team is really good. I had told that Ajit should be given 10/10 for the team. I felt a little bad for Shubman, but he will get more chances soon. All the players are match winners in their own right. Hope we can win back-to-back World Cups because we have that team," he said.
