MS Dhoni and his men were in action on 3 April 2023 as Chennai played against Lucknow at their home in the Indian T20 League. It was the first game for the home crowd after a long gap of 1426 days. So, fans were hoping for a win from their team, especially after losing their season opener against Gujarat by five wickets.

However, they managed to finish on the winning side as they defeated Lucknow by 12 runs. Meanwhile, after the match, MS Dhoni was seen having a chat with some Lucknow players, giving some valuable tips. Seeing that, fans went crazy and shared their views on the social media platform.

“It was a wicket where you could score runs but overall it got a bit slower.” - MS Dhoni

Speaking of the match, Chennai batted first and scored 217 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. MS Dhoni played a three-ball cameo and scored 12 runs. In reply, Chennai bowlers had a tough time but managed to hold Lucknow to 205 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. However, during the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni sent a warning to his bowlers and opened up about how the pitch played.

MS Dhoni said: "Fast bowling we need to slightly improve. Need to bowl according to the conditions. What is important is to keep an eye as to what the opposition bowlers are doing. One more thing is they'll have to bowl no no-balls or extra wides, or they'll have to play under a new captain. It will be my second warning and then I'll be off".

"It was a terrific game, high-scoring game. All of us were thinking how the wicket will be. We had that doubt. It was a high-scoring game. Overall I think it was a perfect first game that happened and it was a full house for the first game in 5 or 6 years since we've been here. I thought it will be much slower. It was a wicket where you could score runs but overall it got a bit slower. We'll have to see how it plays over the next six games at home but hopefully, we can score here. Even if it's on the flatter side, force batters to hit over the fielders," Dhoni further said.
