Umran Malik and Kuldeep Sen were designated as the net bowlers for team India for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. However, due to visa issues, the duo failed to make it to Australia and remained stranded in India. While Malik has joined the Jammu and Kashmir squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), there is no information on Sen.

The Indian team management added Malik as a net bowler as his pace can come in handy for the Indian batters to tackle the Australian pitches. For the unversed, the Australian surface offers a lot of assistance to the fast bowlers as it has the required pace and bounce to trouble the batters.

For this very purpose, Malik was about to board the flight to Australia until the issue forced him to remain in India. Brigadier Anil Gupta, the administrator of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), said earlier that they will follow up with the board match by match and get an update, at the earliest.

Due to some issues, Umran’s travel to Australia has been delayed and the Indian Cricket Board has released him for at least the first game of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy beginning Tuesday.

"We will take it match-by-match. For now, he will be available for the first game,” Gupta was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Fans from India rejoice over Malik’s absence

Albeit fans love Malik, many opined that his pace could have injured many batters in the nets. Fans opined that the players would have been injured had he been there on those bouncy tracks and suggested the batters face Bhuvneshwar Kumar instead.

Justifiably, Malik can easily clock 150 Km/h and trouble the batters with ease. The pacer took the world by storm with his pace in the Indian T20 League and Brett Lee was one of those who lauded him for his talent.

The Australian pacer questioned the Indian team’s selection and opined that Malik must have been a part of the squad. Further, Lee said that his pace could have helped India although he was young and raw.

“Umran Malik is bowling at 150 km per hour. I mean when you have the best car in the world, and you leave it in the garage, then what’s the point of having that car?,” Lee said to Khaleej Times.

Here are the tweets from fans who rejoiced about Malik’s absence:
