According to the most recent batter rankings, New Zealander Kane Williamson is the best Test batter in the world. In the previous rankings, Joe Root was at the top of the list, but the former captain of England moved a few places down after scoring 10 and 18 in the Lord's Test. He has dropped a whopping four spots in the rankings, while Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head have held onto the third and fourth spots, respectively.

It's interesting to note that Kane Williamson last played in the IPL's inaugural match for Gujarat Titans before suffering an injury. He hasn't played any international cricket since March 2023. He is presently rehabilitating from the injury. Williamson presently has 883 rating points to his name, which puts him just one point in front of Steve Smith, the second Ashes Test's standout performer.

Steve Smith follows Kane Williamson closely in the second position

In the second Test of Ashes 2023 at Lord's, Smith recorded his 32nd Test century. Based on his recent performance, he appears poised to recover the top spot in the Test rankings the following week. Smith will play in his 100th career test during the third Ashes 2023 Test at Headingley, and he wants to make it special.

Even though he hasn't played in the format in a while, the lone Indian player in the top 10 is Rishabh Pant (10th position). Rohit Sharma, the captain, is ranked highest among the players who will participate in West Indies Tests, coming in at position 12. Team India will play two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is in the next tour. Moreover, this would be the first shot for the two teams to get off the mark in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2022-25 cycle. The tour starts on July 12 with the first Test at Windsor Park Dominica. Reportedly, the two teams have already started their training sessions for the crucial Test. India will have their training camp at the Kensington Oval before flying to Dominica for the main action.
