Yuvraj Singh was known as one of the best ball strikers of his time. The flamboyant left-hander played one of his best knocks in the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007. It was a semi-final game agianst Australia and both sides were pumped and wanted to get to the grand final of the inaugural T20 World Cup edition.

The Men in Blue won the toss and chose to bat first. Gautam Gambhir cracked 24 off 25 balls with four fours to get India off to a decent start. It was good batting considering that India lost Virender Sehwag for 9 runs. When Gambhir fell the score was 68-2. The match could have gone either way but India decided to seize the initiative.

Robin Uthappa put some pressure back on the Australian bowlers as he made a stroke-filled 34 off 28 balls with three fours and one six. At the other end, Yuvraj was in beast mode as he wasted no time in talking centerstage. The man from Punjab smashed 70 off 30 balls which floored the Australian bowlers. The innings contained five fours and five sixes which showed India wanted to make a statement and go all the way.

In the end, MS Dhoni also provided valuable support as he added 36 off 18 balls with four fours and one six. This meant that India made their way to 188-5 in their 20 overs. For the Kangaroos, Mitchell Jhonson picked up 2-31 in his four overs. The game turned out to be a high-scoring encounter. The Australians were not a team to back down and fought tooth and nail.

Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden got Australia off to a very brisk start. Hayden made 62 off 44 balls with four fours and four sixes, and Andrew Symonds cracked 43 off 26 balls with three fours and two sixes. The Kangaroos made their way to 173-7. It was so close yet so far for Australia. For India, Irfan Pathan, S Sreesanth and Joginder Sharma picked up two wickets in their respective spells. The Men in Blue won by 15 runs.
