Indian pacer Harshit Rana’s childhood coach, Sharvan, has revealed the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir’s words that prompted him to perform well in the Sydney ODI, propelling India to a consolation win against Australia on Saturday, October 25.

Speaking exclusively to The Times of India, Sharvan has revealed that Gambhir knows how to identify talent and back them. He also disclosed that Gambhir scolds Harshit badly and sends a clear message to every player part of the squad.

Rana scalped four wickets of Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Mitchell Owen, and Josh Hazlewood in the SCG ODI to bundle them out for 236 runs in 46.4 overs. His 4/39 at the SCG emerged as his career-best ODI figures.

“He called me and told me that he wanted to shut the outside noise out with his performance. I just said, ‘Believe in yourself.’ I know some cricketers say he is close to Gambhir. But Gambhir knows how to identify talent, and he backs them. Gambhir has backed a lot of cricketers, and they have done wonders for their team,” Sharvan told TOI.

“In fact, he scolded Harshit badly. He told him directly, ‘perform kar, warna bahar bitha dunga.’ He sends a clear message to whoever you are,” he added.

Recently, former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has slammed Rana for being a ‘yes man’ for Gautam Gambhir. Sharvan has now taken a dig at the former Indian cricketer for his vile words at the promising Indian pacer, stating not to scrutinise any player who has just started.

"First, Krishnamachari Srikkanth took the case of this kid. After retirement, cricketers have started their YouTube channels to earn, but please don't scrutinise any kid who has just started. They have the right to guide, to scold, but please don't say anything for your YouTube channel's visibility," he concluded.
