On 9 April 2023, Punjab Kings (PBKS) locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing IPL. The match took place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium as Hyderabad were looking for their first win of the season. On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan and his men were looking for their third consecutive win.

Shikhar Dhawan has been in great form so far in this ongoing tournament. In the last match against Rajasthan, the veteran Southpaw batter scored 86* runs off 56 balls. His innings helped his team to score 197 runs in 20 overs. Punjab won the match by five runs and Dhawan was elated with that victory.

After the victory, Shikhar Dhawan said: “These 2 games we got a great start, Prabh did really well and I tried my best to increase my strike-rate. We want to keep the momentum going as we got a good batting line-up. We respect the opponents' bowlers but want to keep the intent and aggression going. There were some nervous moments, I was trying to keep my calm and discussing plans with my bowlers. Was happy with the score we put up. We scoring 197 and my bowlers giving those early wickets and then Nathan came in and bowled superbly. It was a full team effort”.

So, all eyes were again on him when Punjab came up to bat against SRH after losing the toss. PBKS batters were all over the place as SRH bowlers were on a roll. They lost their nine wickets for 88 runs. But, Shikhar Dhawan stood tall and lonely as he notched up an unbeaten partnership of 55 runs with Mohit Rathee. Dhawan remained not out on 99* runs off 66 balls, including 12 fours and five sixes. Seeing that fight from the PBKS skipper, fans showed respect and shared their views on social media. For SRH, Mayank Markande took four wickets for 15 runs in four overs.
