Ravindra Jadeja, arguably one of India’s greatest all-rounders has been injured for a couple of months now. In those months, India has failed at two major titles in Asia Cup 2022 as well as the 20-20 World Cup.
A big reason for India’s poor performance at these two events could be accredited to Jadeja’s unavailability due to injury. The southpaw is currently going through rehabilitation in order to get back into the side. The process however would still require a significant amount of time, resulting in Jadeja reportedly missing the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh as well.
Let’s look at four potential players who could replace the all-rounder in the team but are unlikely to be selected.
Shahbaz Ahmed

The Haryana cricketer Shahbaz Ahmed took 20 wickets and made 482 runs in the last Ranji Trophy season, proving yet again that he could be a fine replacement for Jadeja. Reports however suggest that he is nowhere in line for a potential call-up to the team.
Sarfaraz Khan

The 25-year-old batter although not a like-for-like replacement for Jadeja, has kept knocking on the national team’s doors. The right-hand batter scored 982 runs in the last season of the Ranji Trophy proving that he is capable of batting at a high level. Since India already has three spinners, Khan could be given a chance in place of Jadeja.
Saurabh Kumar

The Uttar Pradesh allrounder has taken 222 wickets in First class cricket along with making 1721 runs in 52 matches. Kumar has already been a part of the squad when India faced Sri Lanka at home, he however did not get a chance to play. The 29-year-old would be hoping to get into the team on the back of his current form and take Jadeja’s place.
Shams Mulani

Another like-for-like replacement, Mulani has taken 45 wickets and scored over 300 runs in 6 Ranji Trophy matches. The Mumbai-born cricketer has been consistently performing with the bat as well as bowl and could be brought in to fill the huge void left by Jadeja.
