“There is no chance of winning the T20 World Cup with this Indian squad” - Former selector slams Indian selection committee

Former Team India chief selector Kris Srikkanth has stated that India doesn’t stand a chance to win the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka next year in February and March.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth has slammed the Indian selection committee for including the players like Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube and Harshit Rana in the T20I squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025 campaign.

Furthermore, the former Indian batter also felt that this Indian squad has the capability of winning the Asia Cup title, but he felt that they will be strongly challenged in the ICC mega event next year.

“We might win the Asia Cup with this team, but there is no chance of winning the T20 World Cup with this bunch. Are you going to take this team to the World Cup? Is this the preparation for the T20 World Cup, which is hardly six months away?” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

“They have gone backwards. Axar Patel has been axed from vice-captaincy. I don’t know how Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and Harshit Rana have come in. IPL is considered the main criterion for selection, but the selectors seem to have considered performances before that,” he added.

Moreover, Srikkanth also commented on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exclusion from the Indian team, adding that he had an exceptional IPL 2025 season. Also, he raised doubts over who will take over the No.5 batting spot in the playing XI.

“Who will bat at No. 5? Five has to be either Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma or Shivam Dube or Rinku Singh. Hardik Pandya usually bats at No. 5, so now, Axar cannot bat at six. I can’t understand how they picked Dube. Yashasvi Jaiswal has performed in international cricket and IPL as well. What does he do?” Srikkanth questioned.
