Former Indian opener and one of the first World Cup winners of India, Krishnamachari Srikkanth has come up with some hard-and-fast-line suggestions for the selection of players in the Indian squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the Indian Cricket Board decided to shortlist 20 probable players for the 13th edition of the ODI World Cup.
The Indian Cricket Board also went on to advise that the players will be rotated from this selected bunch of 20 individuals considering the preparations for the World Cup 2023. During a conversation with Star Sports, former renowned opener Srikkanth talked in detail about this particular concern of team India. He also said that Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur are those two players who aren’t fit to be placed in the squad for the marquee tournament.
Here's what Krishnamachari Srikkanth said about the Indian lineup for the World Cup 2023
“Two of the players won’t be on my list, Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur,” said Srikanth. Srikkanth’s statement can be considered quite a bit legit as Shardul Thakur wasn’t a part of the recently concluded ODI series against Bangladesh and is also omitted from the squad of the Indian team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Later on, the 63-year-old also opined about the bowling lineup of the men in blue for the World Cup 2023. He went on to say that four pacers would be enough for the team to go with, in the marquee tournament to be held on home soil.
“If you want my medium pacers, they would be (Jasprit) Bumrah, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj. Four medium pacers are enough. (Mohammed) Shami would be so-so. I’m speaking as a chairman of selectors and not a fan, I would instead bring in (Deepak) Hooda. And I believe these are the guys that will win matches, what do you want? You want to win matches, you need horses like Yusuf Pathan who will win you matches single-handedly,” he added later.
