Sanju Samson has not set the world on fire when he got three chances in the Indian playing XI in the T20Is against West Indies. He scored 32 runs in the three outings that he got. India lost the 5-match T20I series 3-2 to the West Indies. India's next assignment will be the 3-match T20I series against Ireland under the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah.

Former India cricketer Abhishek Nayar believes that the Indian management is batting Sanju Samson out of position in T20Is. He said instead of sending the Kerala batter in the lower half of the middle order it would be much better to use him at number three or four. For the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) he bats at number three.

"I believe if you want to utilize Sanju Samson more, bat him at No. 3 because that is his number. He is used to that and he is successful there, or else don't play him," Abhishek Nayar said on Jio Cinema. Even for his state side in the Ranji Trophy Samson bats in the top half of the batting order.

Play Rinku Singh instead of Sanju Samson at Number five or six -Abhishek Nayar

"If you are going to play him at No. 5 or No. 6, play Rinku Singh instead. If you play Samson in the top three, you will get more out of him because he plays shots in the powerplay and then plays the spinners. So I believe not the right place but he will get opportunities," said the former India batter.

The 28-year-old has not had a consistent run in the Indian team. Samson has played 22 T20I matches and scored 333 runs at an average of 18.50 and at a strike rate of 131.62. In the shortest format of the game, he has 1 half-century to show. It will be interesting to see if at all Samson would be still in contention for a spot ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

When it comes to T20 World Cups India have won the inaugural edition in 2007. Their next best performance came later in 2014 when they made it to the finals in Bangladesh but lost to Sri Lanka in the 2022 T20 World Cup, they lost in the semifinals to England.
