Former Australian cricketer Damien Martyn has reacted sharply to the former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif’s tweet on Australia’s early exit from the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Kaif wrote that the Australian team had a sharp fall since winning the ICC ODI World Cup in 2023 against India. He went on to write that if all-rounder Hardik Pandya was part of the ODI WC 2023 final, Australia would’ve lost that too.

“Mighty Aussies they were called after winning the 2023 50-overs World Cup. After that, they had a sharp fall. 2024 World T20, 2025 Champions Trophy, 2025 World Test Championship - they were not Mighty. If Hardik Pandya had played the Ahmedabad final in 2023, the Aussies would have lost there too,” Kaif posted on his X handle.

Martyn, who recently recovered from an induced coma after suffering from meningitis, was quick to react to Kaif’s tweet, stating that their trophy cabinet looks pretty good and no team can catch their record haul of trophies.

Notably, Australia is the most successful ODI team of all time, winning a record six World Cups and two Champions Trophy titles. Moreover, they went on to bag the T20 World Cup and the WTC mace once.

“Can’t be great forever. But the cabinet looks pretty good. It will turn again,” he added.

For the unversed, Martyn is a two-time World Cup champion, having won the trophy in 1999 and 2003. Interestingly, Australia suffered defeats against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka to suffer an early elimination from the group stage in the ongoing showpiece event.
