The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League is going to begin on 31 March 2023. The defending champion, the Gujarat franchise will take on the Chennai franchise in the tournament opener in Ahmedabad. Now, reports in the Times of India have come out that the captain of each team will attend a meeting in Ahmedabad on 30 March.

Hearing that, fans went crazy and came up with some hilarious statements on the social media platform. Speaking of the history of the tournament, Mumbai are the most successful team in this rich-vein league with five titles. After that, Chennai have won the tournament four times while Kolkata have won it two times so far. 

Gujarat franchise is the defending champions of the Indian T20 League 2023

All teams have been divided into two groups. Mumbai, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Lucknow are in the Group A. On the other hand, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Punjab, and Gujarat are in Group B. 12 different venues have been selected and those are Ahmedabad, Mohali, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur, Mumbai, Guwahati, and Dharamsala. Meanwhile, the tournament will happen in the home-away format. Hence, all teams will get to play matches at their home grounds. Several new rules have been included as ‘Impact player’. Meanwhile, some franchises also changed their respective captains ahead of the tournament. Shikhar Dhawan and Nitish Rana got appointed as the skippers of the Punjab and Kolkata franchises respectively.

Shreyas Iyer got ruled out of the tournament due to his back injury. Hence, Rana became the stand-in captain for the upcoming edition. Many players have been injured so far and some replacements have been announced also by many franchises. However, on 26 March 2023, the former Bangalore player, AB de Villiers claimed that the franchise have a solid team and all fans need to support the players to win the trophy this time around. During the ‘Unbox’ event, he said: “I think the team is too good at the moment. We won't get a chance in the starting XI. We would rather be fans and support the boys to bring the Trophy back home. Ee Saala Cup Namde (This year, the trophy is our's)”.
