The former opening batter expressed his disliking for the wicketkeeper batter right after retirement. In an interview with Sports Tak, he had expressed his displeasure for being excluded from the team right from early 2012.

For the unversed, Dhoni had the idea of not taking the trio of Virender Sehwag, Gambhir, and Sachin Tendulkar for the showpiece event. The left-hander had said that a skipper can't decide his World Cup team three years before.

The all-rounder and Dhoni shared a great camaraderie in the initial days of their respective careers. Their camaraderie remained pretty much the same till the 2011 event. But after a short while, Singh diagnosed with cancer but recovered. However, he wasn't the same player after cancer.

Years went by and the two-time World Cup winner started lost place in the team. He missed few mega events from 2015 to 2019. The only exception was the 2017 Champions Trophy where he played for the team. After his retirement in 2019, he said that he didn't get enough support from the team management like Dhoni did.

After retirement, he shockingly revealed that he repeatedly asked Dhoni about his exclusion in the team. The off-spinner added that he never got any response from the 350-ODI veteran. The Punjab player later stopped seeking answers.

However, his appearance in the team started getting limited. Patha, though, was part of the 2013 Champions Trophy team.
