When faced with a strong team in South Africa and England, the Rohit Sharma-led side fell flat on their face and looked ordinary. Following their World Cup ouster, questions are now being asked of the captain as well as the coach.

The Indian Cricket board sacked the entirety of the Selection Committee following the humiliating loss and reports now suggest that there could be a change in head coach as well. Below is a list of five coaches who could replace Rahul Dravid as Team India’s coach for the T20I format.

MS Dhoni is the most successful Indian captain in the history of the game. The 41-year-old has won three major titles as well as a hoard of bilateral trophies. Although Dhoni hasn’t managed a team yet, his decision-making in the game and success point towards Indian team coaching in the future.

Former Team India fast bowler Ashish Nehra has been doing a great job in the Indian T20 League. Having been appointed as Bangalore’s bowling coach in 2018, Nehra impressed all and was soon promoted to Gujarat’s head coach position. Winning the Indian T20 League in the first season itself speaks volumes of Nehra’s calibre as a coach; something that the Indian Cricket Board could give a huge weightage on.

Virender Sehwag

Former Team Indian batter was among the most explosive batters in the history of Indian cricket. Sehwag used to bat like a T20I batter even before the advent of the shortest format. As Team India moves towards an aggressive approach to T20I cricket, Sehwag could be given a chance by the Indian board to take Indian cricket into a new era.

Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri was made Team India captain in 2017. The former cricketer took India to the top of the Test rankings with Virat Kohli as the captain. Although the odds of his re-appointment are very little, Shastri could be given the opportunity based on his man management and his ability to gel well with young players.

VVS Laxman

VVS Laxman has been an integral part of Team India for more than two decades. After playing at the highest level, Laxman moved into commentary and then into coaching with team India. The 48-year-old is currently working as an NCA coach for Team India and manages the team in the absence of Rahul Dravid. Following the board's split-coaching move, Laxman could be handed the T20I responsibility in the future.
