Manchester Originals and Welsh Fire locked horns in the 16th game of The Hundred Men's competition 2022 at Old Trafford. The visitors (Welsh) won the toss and elected to field first. The Red Army bowled as they kept picking wickets at regular intervals and didn't let the opposition score freely. However, this wasn't the case for the first 35 balls as Orginals' opening pair, skipper Jos Buttler and Phil Salt scored 66 runs.
After the fall of Salt (38) against Adam Zampa, the wickets kept falling like a pack of cards. Zampa also took the wicket of Buttler (29). Jake Ball was the star with the ball as he took 29/4 in his full quota of bowling (20 balls). Dwaine Pretorius took two wickets while Matt Critchley took one. The Jos Buttler's men could only amass 149/9 at the end of the innings.
Apart from the skipper and Salt, none of their batters could cross the 20-run mark. In reply, the Josh Cobb-led team didn't have an answer to the bowling from the Men In Black. Just like Manchester, they also kept losing regular wickets. Notably, eight of the Wales-based team couldn't cross the double-digit mark. Talking about Originals' bowling, Sean Abbott was the star for the team as he took four wickets for just eight runs.
This is the second-best bowling figure of the tournament after Henry Brookes' five-wicket haul. Also, Abbott's four-wicket haul is the most economical as he surpassed Imran Tahir from last year. The former South Africa leggie took four wickets for nine runs. Coming back to the game, only Joe Clarke (10), Ben Duckett (25), and Dwaine Pretorius (29) cross the double-digit mark. They got all-out on 102, losing the game by 47 runs.
This was Manchester's first win of the tournament
Jos Buttler's side had lost the first three games in the ongoing second season of the tournament. This is their first win in the season. Their next game will be against Southern Brave on August 18 in Southampton.

Welsh Fire is not a team, just a collection of players interested in their own stats. No pride and no great interest in outcomes.
