'First win a trophy' - fans hit back at Punjab for mocking Chennai

After losing their second match against Kolkata, Punjab returned to winning ways on Sunday. Mayank Agarwal and Co. put in a brilliant display to beat Chennai by 54 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Riding on Liam Livingstone's valiant 60-run knock in 32 balls, Punjab notched a competitive score of 180 runs in the first innings.

They didn’t make a great start as the likes of Mayank Agarwal (4 off 2) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (9 off 5) got out on low scores. However, Shikhar Dhawan and Livingstone then stitched a valuable partnership to stitch a brilliant recovery.

By the time, the duo got out, Punjab had scored 100 runs inside the first 10 overs. Chennai, though, pulled things back a little in the latter half of the innings but Punjab still managed to reach a good enough score to defend. Punjab, later, put in an even better display with the ball.

Debutant Vaibhav Arora bowled beautifully in the powerplay, while the likes of Rahul Chahar (3 for 25) and Liam Livingstone (2 for 25) impressed one and all in the middle overs. Chennai, in the end, were bundled out for just 126 runs in the second innings, thereby falling 54 runs short of the target. With that win, Punjab registered 2 wins in 3 matches.

To celebrate the win, Punjab posted a Tweet to mock their opposition, which, perhaps offended Chennai fans. In their post, the franchise blew the full-time whistle to signify that the match has ended and it was Punjab who had the last laugh. Apparently, this didn’t sit down too well with the fans, who trolled the franchise and came up with an array of reactions. Here’s a look at some of those:
