The campaign aims to raise awareness of the important issue and support the fight against Cancer. "The choice of lavender, a colour symbolising all types of cancer, serves as a powerful reminder of the many lives affected by this devastating disease," a release said.

"By wearing lavender jerseys, GT aims to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention, emphasising the crucial role that lifestyle changes can play in combating cancer," it added.

Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya said, "Cancer is a battle fought by millions in India and across the globe, and as a team, we feel responsible towards raising awareness about this deadly disease.

"Wearing lavender jerseys is our way of showing solidarity with cancer patients, survivors, and their families. We hope our actions will inspire others to take preventive measures and support those who are fighting this battle."

Cancer is the second leading cause of mortality worldwide, resulting in 9.9 million fatalities worldwide in 2020. The incidence of Cancer increased by 26% globally over the past ten years, while the number of cancer-related deaths increased by 11%.

An individual in India has a one in nine risks of having Cancer at some point in their lifetime. Over 14.16 lakh new instances of Cancer were forecast for the nation in 2022, and the incidence of the disease was projected to increase by 12.8% by 2025 compared to 2020.

GT is presently in first place on the IPL 2023 points table and needs one more victory to make the playoffs. However, SRH, currently in ninth place, will want to win all their remaining games to improve their chances of entering the playoffs.
