November 14 will go down as one of the historic days for Australia as the team defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets to win their maiden 20-20 World Cup title. Having won the toss and opted to bowl, Australia already had a massive advantage because of the dew. While Kane Williamson tried his best to take New Zealand to a strong total, other batters couldn't resist the Aussie bowlers as New Zealand had to settle for a par score of 172/4. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh scored half-centuries to steer Australia to a comfortable win.

David Warner came into the tournament on the back of a miserable Indian Premier League (IPL). He was even dropped from the SRH team following his extended lean patch. The southpaw however proved true that 'form is temporary but the class is permanent. Warner emerged as the leading run-scorer for Australia in the tournament, scoring 289 runs in 7 games.

Fittingly, Warner was named the 'Player of the Tournament. However, few fans were not impressed by the jury's decision and felt that Babar Azam, who had scored more runs than Warner and played a game less, should have got the award. The tournament ended with Babar leading the charts of most runs, with 303 runs to his name.
