The Apex Council of the BBCI met on Friday and decided that if the autonomy of the BCCI is not affected, it will allow the Indian men and women’s teams to participate in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The women's team will also take part in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022. The Apex body also decided that the Indian women team will tour Australia at the end of 2021 that will be followed by an away series against New Zealand.

"The women's team will be playing in the Birmingham CWG. If finally, cricket is a part of 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, then both men and women's team will take part. This has been decided in principle," a senior BCCI functionary privy to developments of the day told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

It was also reported that the BCCI has got the visa approval for the Pakistan team and its media for the upcoming T20 World Cup that is due to take place in India later this year. The decision of allowing the Pakistan fans will be taken by the Home Ministry. Earlier, PCB Chief Ehsan Mani requested BCCI to grant Visa’s for the Pakistan team, media persons and the fans.

Though the decision to include cricket in the Olympics will be taken by the ICC and IOC, BCCI's approval is a massive step ahead in the direction.
