On 4 April 2023, the seventh match of the ongoing Indian T20 League took place at the Arun Jaitley stadium. Delhi took on the defending champion, Gujarat. Gujarat were coming off after a victory against Chennai. While Delhi suffered a heavy defeat against Lucknow in their season opener.

So, the home side were looking for a win while Gujarat were looking to continue their winning momentum. Speaking of the match, David Miller came into the laying XI for Gujarat and Anrich Nortje came into the playing XI for Delhi. However, Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant also visited the stadium to witness the match from the stands. Fans were over the moon to see him in the stadium after a long gap. He was seen visiting the stadium with crunches. For Delhi, the skipper David Warner and Prithvi Shaw came out to open. But, Shaw scored only seven runs while Warner played another slow inning of 37 runs off 32 balls. Other batters failed again. Only Axar Patel scored 36 runs off 22 balls, including two fours and three sixes. Thus, Delhi scored 162 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For Gujarat, both Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan took three wickets each. Apart from them, Alzarri Joseph took two wickets for 29 runs in four overs.

In reply, Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha came out as openers. But, Anrich Norje took both wickets as Gill and Saha scored 14 runs each. Then, Hardik Pandya failed to score again as he got out on five runs. After that, Vijay Shankar scored 29 runs off 23 balls. After that, Sai Sudharsan scored 62* runs off 48 balls and David Miller scored 31* runs off 16 balls. Thus, they won the match with six wickets in hand. Hence, the defending champion registered their second consecutive win this season.
