Faf du Plessis goes past Babar Azam; now has most T20 centuries as captain

With a brilliant unbeaten 103 off 53 balls, his second century of the Major League Cricket (MLC) season, South Africa veteran Faf du Plessis has rewritten the history of T20 captaincy. He helped the Texas Super Kings defeat MI New York, securing their postseason berth.

In addition to praising his remarkable fitness and poise at forty, the hit put him ahead of Michael Klinger and Babar Azam, who both previously held the record of seven centuries as captain.

In just 53 deliveries, Du Plessis reached his century, smashing five fours and nine sixes. He became the first player in T20 history to score two hundreds after turning forty, and it was his second century of the season; his first came against the San Francisco Unicorns.

Faf du Plessis currently holds the record for the most T20 hundreds by a skipper, having achieved eight hundreds in just 200 innings, thanks to this incredible feat. He has surpassed the previous record of seven hundred, which was shared by Babar Azam and Michael Klinger.  

Babar Azam—renowned globally for his technical finesse and leadership—has seven centuries as captain across T20 formats, playing for Pakistan, Karachi Kings, and Peshawar Zalmi.

Michael Klinger, an Australian domestic legend, played 206 T20s, scoring 5960 runs with 8 centuries, 7 of them as captain in tournaments like the Big Bash League and England competitions.

In addition, Du Plessis has broken another MLC record by surpassing Finn Allen, who had two tons, to become the player with the most tons in the league with his three hundreds.
