The 23-year-old Southpaw batter smacked an excellent 175-run knock off 258 balls with 22 fours before being involved in an unfortunate mix-up with the skipper, Shubman Gill, to end his knock short of a double century.

Kaif, in his tweet on X, stated that Jaiswal’s numbers are as good as modern-day greats Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, adding that the Indian opener will break Virender Sehwag’s triple-century record in the longest format of the game.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal is a batsman with the patience to score big hundreds and set new marks. In his first 26 matches, his numbers are as good as Sachin and Virat. Scoring at a high strike rate, his hundreds mostly put India on path to victory. Sehwag ka 300 wala record, Jaiswal hi todega,” Kaif wrote on X.

Notably, Virender Sehwag was the first Indian batter to score a triple century in Test cricket. While his 309-run knock came against Pakistan in Multan in 2004, his 319-run knock came against South Africa in Chennai in 2008.

Speaking about his Test stats, Jaiswal has accumulated 2420 runs from 26 Tests at an average of 52.6 with seven centuries and 12 half-centuries. He has the highest individual score of 214* against England in Rajkot in February 2024.

After his 175-run knock vs West Indies on Day 2, Gill went on to smack 129* off 196 balls as India declared their innings on 518/5 in 134.2 overs. At the time of writing this article, the West Indies responded with 217/8 in 72 overs, trailing by 301 runs at lunch on Day 3.
