Former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has opened up on the veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s trade to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the forthcoming IPL 2026 season with a pay cut.
Interestingly, Jadeja was traded from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to the RR franchise from his original league fee of INR 18 Crore to a reduced pay of INR 14 Crore. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra questioned the reason behind Jadeja taking a four crore pay cut.
Furthermore, Chopra felt that Jadeja might have received the captaincy offer from the Royals franchise, which could be the reason behind Jadeja taking a pay cut. He went on to add that there has been a bit more than what fans are thinking behind Jadeja’s trade.
"RR have got Jadeja but he has taken a pay cut. I am thinking he left CSK by taking a pay cut? Without a player's consent you cannot change their price. He has taken 4 crores less to leave Chennai and that is mind-boggling,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.
“Why does someone take a pay cut? Maybe he was done with CSK and did not want to stay there. But he could have done that by going into the auction as well. Have RR offered him captaincy? Was that the incentive for which he has gone towards RR? It is very interesting. There has to be a bit more to it," he added.
On the other hand, CSK Managing Director, Kasi Viswanathan, has revealed that trading Jadeja was one of the most difficult decisions for the franchise, but it was made with the future in mind.
"It was probably one of the toughest decisions CSK had to take as a team management. Considering the transition of CSK at this point of time, the team management took the toughest decision. It is a must that we should consult the players concerned, and it was after mutual agreement that we undertook this," Viswanathan stated.

“He has taken 4 crores less to leave CSK” - Ex-Indian cricketer makes a startling comment on Ravindra Jadeja’s trade to RR
An ex-Indian cricketer (Aakash Chopra) questions why Ravindra Jadeja accepted a ₹4 crore pay cut (₹18cr to ₹14cr) to move from CSK to RR. The analysis suggests the all-rounder might have been "done with CSK" or received a captaincy promise from Rajasthan Royals.
