Former Australian keeper-batter Brad Haddin has opened up on the Indian selection committee picking Shubman Gill as the new ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia Down Under.
Speaking on the Willow Talk Podcast, Haddin asserted that Gill getting the ODI captaincy will free up Rohit as a batter on his return to the format. Also, Haddin urged the fans to turn up in big numbers to watch the Indian veteran batting duo in the forthcoming ODI series.
"Get out and watch them (Rohit and Virat). They are greats of the game, and I think this will be the last time they are on our shores. So, do not miss the opportunity. You have got (Shubman) Gill, who is the captain now, that might free Rohit Sharma up to just play,” said Haddin on the Willow Talk Podcast.
Furthermore, Haddin heaped praise on the Indian opening batter Abhishek Sharma, who is currently ranked No.1 in the ICC T20I batting rankings. Notably, Sharma finished the Asia Cup 2025 campaign as the leading run-scorer with 314 runs from six innings at an average of 44.85 and a strike rate of 200.
"Abhishek Sharma, pay your money to go watch him. He is explosive, and get ready for a catch. He is the number one-ranked T20I batter in the world after only a really short sample size playing for India. He is worth the money, watch him," he added.
Abhishek Sharma will be next seen in the five-match T20I series against Australia Down Under after the conclusion of the three-match ODI series.
