Former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell has stated that the England middle-order batter Harry Brook reminds him of the former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar in the latter’s early part of his career.
Speaking in a video posted on X by cricket.com.au, Chappell asserted that Brook has the capability of scoring off the most deliveries, adding that there are not many balls that he can’t score off, which makes him a really good batter.
Harry Brook has played 30 Tests so far, accumulating 2820 runs at an average of 57.55 with 10 centuries and 13 half-centuries. On the other hand, he has played 35 ODIs, scoring 1170 runs at an average of 36.56, with 1012 runs from 52 T20Is at an average of 30.66.
"For me, Harry Brook is the interesting one. I have seen a bit of him on television. I would like to see him live. He looks like a really good player. His record suggests that he is a good player. You know, he is averaging 62 in Test cricket so far," Greg Chappell said in a video posted by cricket.com.au on X.
"That's a pretty impressive record. I have watched him bat, as I say, on television. He reminds me very much of Sachin Tendulkar, in Sachin's early part of his career. You know, very minimal movement early on, picks off the angles really well, can score off most deliveries. There are not many deliveries that he can't score off," he added.
Brook’s next assignment would be the much-anticipated Ashes 2025-26 campaign when England takes on Australia in the first Test in Perth, starting on November 21. Interestingly, this will be Brook’s first Test in Australia.
"Australia has historically been a test for England batsmen to adapt to the first time around. How he adapts will be interesting to watch," Chappell concluded.
