England vs India: 3 Changes India should make for 4th Test

Team India fought hard at Lord’s but ended up on the losing side, falling short of the 193-run chase by 22 runs against England. They are now 1-2 down in the five-match series and will have to hit the ground running in the fourth Test to level the series.

The match will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, where India last played a Test match 11 years ago. Here are three changes India should make with the series on the line.

1. Arshdeep Singh IN, Akash Deep OUT

Arshdeep Singh can be handed his much-awaited Test debut in Manchester. He is waiting for his chance eagerly and his left-arm pace can certainly provide the variety in the Indian bowling attack. Akash Deep was effective at Edgbaston and fared decently at Lord’s. After bowling so many overs in back to back Tests, he could be rested for Arshdeep Singh.

2. Sai Sudharsan IN, Karun Nair OUT

Time might have run out for Karun Nair. He batted at six in the first Test and was then moved up the order to number three for the next two matches. But in six innings, his highest score is only 40 and is averaging around only 16 in this series. Sudharsan was unfairly dropped after the first Test and deserves another chance to prove his mettle. At number three, with his technique, he can lend solidity to the batting line-up and solve India’s long standing issue in this series

3. Dhruv Jurel IN, Rishabh Pant OUT

Advertisment

This could be a forced change for India. Rishabh Pant didn’t keep after getting hit on his finger at Lord’s on the opening day. Dhruv Jurel was substituted for him as wicketkeeper and the injury affected Pant’s batting as well, especially in the second innings. Jurel was brilliant with the gloves at Lord’s and is solid with the bat in hand as well. In case Pant fails to recover, Jurel is a good option to have for India in their batting line-up. Even though he isn’t aggressive as Pant, Jurel can score runs at a fair clip.
