England and India will play the first T20I of the three-match series on July 7. This game is set to take place at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The visiting team will miss their first-choice players as they were playing the fifth Test match till July 5. Thus, they will play will the same set of players who played against South Africa and Ireland.

On the other hand, the home team already has a different set of players for white-ball and red-ball cricket. The team will start afresh after the retirement of Eoin Morgan, who quit the international game. Jos Buttler will get the first taste of full-time captaincy in the series. Both teams will look to start their preparations for the 20-20 World Cup in October this year.

The team is going through a transition with Morgan's retirement and Buttler taking over. Talking about the squad, it is to be noted that they have named only 14 players for the series. Richard Gleeson has got a maiden call-up after grinding hard in domestic cricket.

Harry Brook and Matthew Parkinson, who were part of the Test squad for New Zealand, will also be part of the T20I squad. Tymal Mills, who got injured during the Indian T20 League 2022, will make a comeback at the highest level.

Jos Buttler (c & wk), Jason Roy, Dawid Malan, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, David Willey, Chris Jordan, Matthew Parkison, Richard Gleeson

India:

The squad for the first game did well against Ireland. In fact, they were absolutely sensational with the bat. However, there bowling was a concern in the series. Notably, in the two warm-up games against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire, the same set of bowlers bowled well.

Arshdeep Singh, who didn't get a chance in the Ireland series, did get to play the warm-up games and did well. Talking about the playing, there is still a question mark over Rohit Sharma’s participation in this game. It will be interesting to see whether Harshal Patel or Arshdeep Singh will play. The rest of the players might be the same.

Playing XI:

Sanju Samson/Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel/Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Umran Malik.

Match Details:

Date: 7th July 2022

Venue: The Rose Bowl, Southampton

Time: 10:30 PM (IST)

Pitch Report:

The pitch at this venue has been good for batting over the years. One thing which both teams would like to account for is the boundary size. The square and straight boundaries are one of the longest in the UK As it is a day-night game, both teams might prefer bowling first although the dew factor might not come into play.
