England and India have wrapped up the T20I series and will now play the three-match T20I series, starting on 12th July 2022. The visitors won the T20I series by a 2-1 margin and will be looking to carry the winning momentum. On the other hand, the hosts will be looking to solidify their top position in the World Cup Super League.
The Men In Blue will be looking to start building their team for the ODI World Cup next year. They haven't played enough ODI games in the last couple of years. They will be looking to start zeroing on middle-order batters in the team. On the other hand, the Three Lions are a well-settled ODI side.
Team News:
England: This is the first time the team will be playing an ODI after Eoin Morgan's retirement. Now, the in-charge of the team is Jos Buttler, who didn't have a great start to his full-time captaincy. He would look to put that behind him and start afresh in the series.
Talking about the playing XI, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes, who were absent during the T20Is, will be playing the series. Bairstow will open the batting with Jason Roy. With Morgan's retirement, someone like Harry Brook can make his ODI debut.
Probable Playing XI:
Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Harry Brook/Liam Livingstone, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (c & wk), Moeen Ali, David Willey, Reece Topley/Sam Curran, Craig Overton, Brydon Carse
India: The two batters in the top three (Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli) batters are woefully out of form. Shikhar Dhawan, also hasn't played any cricket since the Indian T20 League 2022. The fan can still trust him to do well given his experience.
Also, Shreyas Iyer, who is getting troubled against short-pitched bowling, might get replaced by in-form Suryakumar Yadav or Deepak Hooda. Hardik Pandya will also make his comeback in the ODI setup after a year. Arshdeep Singh is also likely to make his debut.
Playing XI:
Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer/Deepak Hooda/Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur/Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal
